The Surf City Run for Bears is a fundraiser to provide memorable Build-A-Bear Workshop® experiences for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. Supporters of UMPS CARE Charities raised more than $11,000 for the children’s hospital program and met on February 5th in Huntington Beach, CA to run in the Surf City Half Marathon. By all accounts, the 2nd Annual Surf City Run for Bears was a smashing success. The 14 runners woke up early Super Bowl Sunday and headed to beautiful Huntington Beach for the race. Here are just a few team stats:
But what this rag tag band of runners was able to accomplish on the run was nothing compared to their fundraising efforts. In 2011, the runners raised $3,000.00. This year, the runners raised over $11,000.00 from more than 120 donors. Four runners raised over $1,000.00 with superstar Alice Arimitsu raising an incredible $3,000.00++ by herself. All told, everyone had a great time and can’t wait for next year. Thank you New Balance for serving as the official shirt sponsor for the Surf City Run for Bears and thank you Ghirardelli Chocolate for the tasty chocolates at the finish line! |
