Larry Young

Chairman Emeritus

Larry spent 24 years umpiring Major League Baseball games before becoming an umpire supervisor in 2008. His umpiring career started at the age of 13 on the sandlots of his native Oregon, Illinois. He then progressed to officiating in the Big Ten and the Alaskan League. During his MLB career he umpired two All Star games, six Division series, three league championships and the 1996 and 2003 World Series. He is a proud recipient of the National Association of Sports Officials Gold Whistle award presented for community service. Larry is one of the founders of UMPS CARE and is a chairman emeritus. New to his lists of job titles is author. Larry published a children’s book, featuring his grandsons, Gus and Bo, titled, “The Ump Is A Grump.”
