Major League Baseball umpires Brennan Miller and Chris Segal hosted a Halloween event for kids at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., with lots of treats and no tricks!

The baseball umpires delivered 100 Build-A-Bear® furry friends, Halloween-themed outfits, activity books and more to young patients undergoing treatment at Children’s National.

Earlier this month, Brennan and Chris hosted the third annual East Coast Classic in Clifton, Virginia, as a fundraiser to make this visit possible.

This delivery at Children’s National will mark the 206th visit to a children’s hospital since Major League Baseball umpires started their visits back in 2006.

With this visit, UMPS CARE is proud to share that we have delivered 20,965 Build-A-Bear® furry friends to children undergoing medical treatment in pediatric hospitals across the country and in Canada.

“We absolutely are overjoyed to visit with the kids and families who are at Children’s National Hospital,” said UMPS CARE Charities Executive Director Jennifer Skolochenko-Platt. “The Major League Baseball umpires began this program in 2006 through UMPS CARE Charities, and it is incredible to see how much impact this program has made over the years.”

“UMPS CARE is important to both of us because we want to make a difference in the community,” Brennan said. “Chris and I feel fortunate that we can use baseball and umpiring to give back. Seeing the kids’ smiles truly is what it is all about.”

All of us at UMPS CARE are grateful to the supporters, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the East Coast Classic such a great event and for making the visit today happen!

Special thanks to photographer Mike Buscher for capturing so many special moments from the day!
