Being in a hospital is never fun, especially if you are a kid.

So imagine what it’s like to be a kid in a hospital who is surprised with a Build-A-Bear furry friend! It is just the right dose of medicine needed.

All of us at UMPS CARE Charities are thrilled we have been able to deliver this kind of joy to kids who need it most through our Blue for Kids hospital program. UMPS CARE Charities delivered furry friends to kids at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital on the day the MLB All-Star Game was being played at Dodger Stadium.

Then we delivered 100 more Build-A-Bear stuffed toys to young patients at The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Children get to choose which toy they want, plus an outfit, along with bsaeball-themed activity books, crayons, baseball-styled stress balls and more! It is very empowering for children to be able to choose their toy since they don’t get to make many choices of their own while undergoing treatment.

Next up on our schedule is a visit to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, where we hope to brighten the day for patients undergoing treatment in Baltimore. Be on the lookout on our social media channels for more smiles! They are coming!!

Special thanks to longtime UMPS CARE supporter Melanie Ahern, the Child Life staff at UCLA Mattel Children’s and The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital for making these moments so special.
