DELOITTE TEAMS UP WITH UMPS CARE CHARITIES TO CHANGE LIVES OF CHILDREN ADOPTED LATER IN LIFE THROUGH ALL-STAR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

UMPS CARE Charities, the official philanthropy of the Major League Baseball Umpires, is proud to announce a sponsorship with Deloitte to support our All-Star College Scholarship Program. The $25,000 sponsorship will support the All-Star College Scholarship program overall in addition to the 2021 recipient being designated as the Deloitte Scholar.

This $25,000 sponsorship will benefit the Deloitte Scholar recipient and will cover two and a half years of his/her scholarship. UMPS CARE relies on sponsorship and donations to fully fund these scholarships. To date, UMPS CARE has distributed more than $282,500 to support college educations for young adults who were adopted later in life.

The All-Star College Scholarship supports children adopted later in life who are pursuing a college degree. The scholarship not only provides $10,000 per year to help ease the financial burden of college tuition and housing costs but also supports the recipient through on-going mentorship from MLB Umpires and their families to ensure long-term success. Families who adopt children in their teens do not have the years of preparation to save for college education, and this scholarship can help break that barrier.

Deloitte professionals will In addition, Deloitte will further invest in the program by encouraging professionals to serve as mentors and to help guide the student through their college years.

UMPS CARE supported five students this past year, with Marcus Lo (University of Southern California), Vitalik Walle (Colorado Christian University), Jaskirat Kaur (San Francisco State), Anthony Ucciferri (Montclair State University) and Katherine Atkins (Appalachian State University). Anthony and Katherine graduated this spring.

“All of us at UMPS CARE Charities are proud of our All-Star College Scholarship program as it truly does change the lives of young people who were adopted later in life,” UMPS CARE Charities president Gary Darling said. “We have seen firsthand how much our support has made an impact, giving hope to kids who really need it. We are thrilled to have an organization of the stature of Deloitte to be part of our crew and to solidify the program.”

“Deloitte is proud to support the UMPS CARE Charities All-Star College Scholarship program as part of our larger initiative of creating opportunities for advanced learning for deserving recipients to continue their educational journey as they reach for their dreams,” said Randy DeYulio – Long Island Managing Partner – Deloitte LLP

“UMPS CARE Charities funded a large portion towards my college expenses,” said Logan Decker Crum, an All-Star College Scholarship recipient who graduated from Maranatha Baptist College and is now a nurse. “I am not who I once was and I thank God for that. These chapters of my life continue to impact me and I hope that my story gives others hope. You don’t have to be held back by your past hurts. You can rise up and accomplish many things. Use your resources, never be afraid to ask for help, and aim high.”
